Topic: No more Comments
Ok, I that my import problems are a symptom of a different problem, relating to Taxon_Occurence_Ccomment.
The bird data that I was trying to import was throwing up the exception when trying to add taxon_determinations to taxon_occurrences that had been rejected without any warnings being triggered. So when examining the resulting import, some records were present in their entirety, some with just survey_event and Sample present. These missing Taxon_occurences being the ones with comments.
This also tallies with the original issue I had with the original NBN Zipped Access database - it was the comments that were breaking the system then too.
I have subsequently tried entering a single record using the 'Enter Single Record' form, and a record is successfully created, but the comment is lost. It is also not possible to add comments to existing Taxon_Occurrences. The cursor appears in the box when you attempt it, but nothing happens when you type anything. This does not happen with Sample Comments, so there is something inherently wrong with the Taxon_Occurence table.
It is possible to add a row into the table directly in SQL Server, with a comment.
So with hindsight, I'm not sure that the upgrade to SQL SErver 2008 has made any difference to the problem I was suffering from, and now I'm stuck without being able to enter any new data into Recorder for fear of losing valuable comments.
