Re: Pollenia synonymy

Posting in this forum these days is a bit like talking to oneself, but this has just come to my notice.

Pollenia intermedia Macquart, 1835     TaxonVersionKey: NHMSYS0020706088

and

Pollenia labialis Robineau-Desvoidy, 1863     TaxonVersionKey: NBNSYS0100004788

are returned separately, whereas according to the checklist at

http://www.dipteristsforum.org.uk/sgb_check_search.php?q=pollenia&Submit=Search

labialis should include intermedia.

Re: Pollenia synonymy

I am hoping that the Natural History Museum are focusing on the dictionary changes we need for Recorder 6 – see http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?pid=9228#p9228 – and that the normal service here will be resumed once they are complete. I have requested an update but the person I contacted is away this week. I will let you know when I get it.

Re: Pollenia synonymy

I appreciate that point, Sally.  I have already been in touch with Mary who explained the situation.

However, the posts I and others have made in this forum over the past several months have not been given any substantive response.  A number of serious failings in the dictionary system have been pointed out.  I don't go hunting for them - they are errors or inconsistencies that I notice in my normal use of R6 and the Gateway.  My conclusion is that something about the way synonyms and related matters are handled is seriously flawed, and it is eroding my confidence in the dictionary.

If NHM is focusing on the dictionary changes, I would have thought that they would welcome the points being made here.  Maybe they are, but do not respond on the forum.  If that is the case, it would be nice to know that we are not just yelling in the wildlerness when we try to be constructive.
