Re: TVKs for 2 lichen species

Hi,

I'm trying to find the TVKs for 2 lichen species so I can link to the correct NBN Interactive Map from our website, LichenIreland.

The two species are:
Verrucaria viridula f. viridula
Verrucaria csernaensis

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Fiona

Re: TVKs for 2 lichen species

Hello Fiona

I can't find either of these lichen taxa in the species dictionary and there are no records for them on the NBN Gateway. New taxonversionkeys will need to be added to the species dictionary to include records for these 2 taxa on the NBN Gateway, so that they will appear in the NBN interactive map.

Best wishes

Re: TVKs for 2 lichen species

The BLS is putting together a big update to the lichen species dictionary, including many new names as well as quite a few name changes and additional synonyms. Verrucaria cernaensis (the spelling has changed) will be in that update, but Verrucaria viridula has not been split so far as I know.

We are also very close to releasing our English and Threatened Lichens datasets onto the gateway, so you should soon have a lot more records to display.

If you need information on the English and Welsh distributions of lichen species in the meantime please contact me direct and I'll send you what we have in the BLS database.

Re: TVKs for 2 lichen species

Many thanks Janet, that helps enormously. I finally caught up with our resident lichenologist who told me Verrucaria viridula had not been split so we have updated our records to Verrucaria viridula.

For Verrucaria cernaensis, I will wait for the BLS update and then we should be able to connect to the correct species on the IMT.

We hope to have our dataset uploaded to the Gateway in September so we should be displaying our records using the IMT shortly after that.

At the moment we will be displaying Northern Ireland records only through the Habitas website but I plan to put links through the NBN Gateway for people to view all records on the map.

Thanks again,
Fiona

Re: TVKs for 2 lichen species

The Lichen checklist is slated for importing but has been delayed due to the handover from Charles to myself - apologies for the delay. There are a few other exciting projects in development but when I can schedule the checklist import I will report back here :)

Re: TVKs for 2 lichen species

The update to the lichen species dictionary was submitted last year, after a huge amount of work to put it together, and we understood that Charles was working on it before he retired, so we are very concerned to hear that it has dropped off the schedule again. We have other projects, including the NBN Record Cleaner rules, that are waiting on this so can you give us any idea of when it might get done?

I do realise that it is a big job and there are many other demands on your time!!

Re: TVKs for 2 lichen species

Hi Janet

Apologies if my post sounded a bit pessimistic - that wasn't my intention - the list is actually top of my list to import and has just been delayed due to the handover. I will keep you updated about the progress of the importation but I would expect that we will be working on it within the next 2 weeks. :)

Best wishes,
Chris R.
