Can anyone point me in the right direction for restricting an XML to those taxa which occur in a specific checklist - in this particular case, Lepidoptera (micro)?

To point you in the right direction.  The table is Taxon_List.  You can then use the name of the list or the Taxon_List_Key to restrict the output to the list you require. The table links to the Taxon_List_Item_Key in Taxon_Determination via the tables Taxon_List_Item and Taxon_List_Version.
