Re: Stonechat names

I had reason today to check up on names of the Stonechat, and found some inconsistencies.

R6/NBNG uses Saxicola torquata with no synonyms.

The BOU list and BTO have Saxicola torquatus, http://www.bou.org.uk/thebritishlist/British%20List%202010%2008%2031.pdf and http://blx1.bto.org/birdfacts/results/bob11390.htm.

Many other people are using S. rubicola, following a split of the European and African forms, e.g. http://avibase.bsc-eoc.org/species.jsp?avibaseid=F5463F0D78EC9979.

I would have thought that all three names should be in the dictionary somewhere, whichever is correct.

Re: Stonechat names

Murdo,

I am happy to ensure all three names are in the Species Dictionary. Those not in the BOU list(s) will be in the 'List of Additional Names'.

Thanks, Charles.  I seem to have been throwing a lot of tasks your way recently - I am not searching them out, they just emerge unbidden!
