Re: eum or eus?

Is the correct name of the Prunus padus gall mite Eriophyes paderineus, as Google results throw up;

or

...eum, as in the NBN and R6 dictionaries but not known to Google?

I am no expert on the group, but I think there may be an error in the dictionary name.

Re: eum or eus?

Dear Murdo,

Well spotted! Eriophyes paderineum is an old name originally from the Recorder 3.3 list (incidentally the British Plant Gall Society list in the Species Dictionary has it as Eriophyes paderinus - which is also wrong).

I have added Eriophyes paderineus Nalepa, 1909 to the Dictionary, with a Taxon Version Key of NHMSYS0020732311 and mapped the other names to this (although I note that Fauna Europaea has Eriophyes paderineus  as a synonym of Eriophyes distinguendus (Kieffer, 1902)).

Best wishes,

Re: eum or eus?

Thanks, Charles.  It is always a bit nerve-racking when one steps outside one's taxon, but I am pleased that it was justified.
