Re: Transparency of Lists Being Worked on for Dictionary Inclusion

Charles,

Can I ask if there is an online list anywhere which denotes the various lists and name changes currently being worked upon for inclusion and/or amendation of the Species Dictionary ?

If not, could I please ask that such a 'changes list' is made available on the NBN website so that people can see which species areas are being worked on, how far work has progressed on the changes/additions, and when the various items have been completed and passed across for inclusion in the online dictionary, for webservices and for Recorder-6 ?  This would be similar, I suppose, to the list on the Recorder-6 website which shows the various proposed and worked changes to the Recorder program.

It would be useful if such a working list could also include a section showing which taxonomic areas are still devoid of names and are required for the dictionary so that people could actually get around to providing them.  Not knowing what is needed is often the only hurdle to such being made available.

Cheers and many thanks.

Re: Transparency of Lists Being Worked on for Dictionary Inclusion

Dear Steve,

You make a very good point. There is a list showing state of play and gaps http://nbn.nhm.ac.uk/nhm//summary_table.pdf, but this is more or less out of date. The Species Dictionary Website is currently being re-built, which means that I am not easily able to post an update of this table until the new site is in place. I shall see if it is possible to make an update avialble through other channels (possibly including through this forum). I note that what you are asking for is a more responsive list that shows, not just lists 'in the pipeline' but also timetables for release of updates to the Gateway and Recorder.

We are planning that the new website will allow users to easily search for changes and additions since a given date.

Thanks Charles - I will greatly look forward to such a list(s) being made available though obviously the major task is keeping them up to date so that people can be sure of the 'current' position and state of play.

Cheers
