Re: Another import wizard bug

Not sure if this is related to my other import wizard bug, or if it is a separate issue.

I have been testing the workstation which cannot import without crashing (see other threads about Invalid Class String exception) using a small dataset of 4 observations. Just as a control I thought I would test these on a working machine.

The import progessed normally, got through the validation stage, but failed to actually do the import. Closer inspection reveals that my test dataset had invalid dates (they actually had tomorrow's date on each record).

The final screen of the import wizard reported that 12 items had been created, but all twelve were invalid (with the same dataset, but with corrected dates it reports 24 items created with none invalid)

Anyway when I press the Do Import button in the wizard, with the invalid dataset, the follwoing dialog appears:

Which is of course nonsense.

But why does it even let me try to import a dataset in which each and every record is manifestly and obviously invalid?

Re: Another import wizard bug

Hi Rob,

You will be pleased to know that a series of bugs in the import wizard have just been commissioned to be fixed in the next version - this includes future dates not being flagged as errors. Hopefully this will be with us by late May.

Best Wishes,
Lynn

Re: Another import wizard bug

If the -3 in ‘-3 items were successfully imported’ is something you are concerned about an explanation is in http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?pid=4337#p4337 .

Re: Another import wizard bug

Hi,

Not sure if this is the same bug, but it had pretty drastic results.
I did a large import (approx 187,000 observations) had a few problems which I was investigating. Did another smaller import (approx 10,000) Went fine but a got a message saying

-15,729 items imported.
1 item failed validation
58,439 items were rejected.

Recorder proceeded to "delete rejected items" so my 10,000 import was OK, but 58,000 items from the previous import were deleted.
Do not understand at all.

Fortunately all was in a test system so no harm done, but I'd like to know what is happening.

Re: Another import wizard bug

This sounds like the issue Sally described above, where the database has been left in an invalid state  and the second import clears up the mess.
