Does recorder have the ability to apply taxonomic changes to old records?

I've been specifically looking at Lasius niger ; in 1991 a second species Lasius platythorax was discovered that has to be verified by microscope. I checked our records and there are none for L. platythorax which makes me wonder how many have been properly verified.

BWARS suggest all L. niger records that are pre 1991 and any without formal verification should be marked as aggregates.

I know this is just for one ant species but it got me wondering if there were others we should be checking and if there is a way of assigning these changes without editing every record individually?
