Re: Polinices catenus - Spotted Necklace Shell

Can anyone point me in the right direction please - I am trying to find a marine mollusc, the Spotted Necklace Shell or Bulky Necklace Shell (Polinices catenus) in the dictionaries in Recorder without any luck.

I can find other 'Polinices' species but not 'catenus' - however, I can find no other synonymic information which might enable me to link the species I am looking for with one in the dictionary under a name change.

Anybody any ideas ??

Has it been missed from the dictionaries ?

Cheers and thanks

Re: Polinices catenus - Spotted Necklace Shell

Dear Steve,

Second time today - glad to see an active user!

It is in as Polinices catena although the current name is Euspira catena (da Costa, 1778). I can say this with the advantage of being able to query the database directly!

Best wishes,

Thanks Charles - very much appreciated.

Hmmm, I must be going blind - I didn't even notice the obvious male/female change to the ending of the specific name .

Cheers and thanks

Re: Polinices catenus - Spotted Necklace Shell

Oh well. It may be in the NHM version of the dictionary Charles BUT it does not seem to be available (along with the other Polinices species) in the Webservices version of the dictionary from the NBN.

Cheers

Steve
