Topic: Dictionary 4V

Hello Mike,

I've been taking a look at the taxon hierarchy in the latest dictionary and comparing taxon groups for species that have the same parent - there seem to be a few anomalies:

The liverwort Metzgeria pubescens (TLIK NBNORG0000023703, TVK NBNSYS0000037057) has NBNORG0000040459 as it's parent key which belongs to a genus of Molluscs - I think it's parent key should be NBNORG0000050058

The species Navicella pileata (NBNORG0000081832, NHMSYS0001490659) and Navicella pusilla (NBNORG0000107059,NHMSYS0020955122) have NBNORG0000081831 as their parent key which is odd as N. pileata is a fungus and N. pusilla is a diatom

Trichodiscus elegans (NBNORG0000070114,NHMSYS0000607350) and Trichodiscus virescentulus (NBNORG0000006229,BMSSYS0000018885) have NBNORG0000084912 as their parent key when T. elegans is an alga and T. virescentulus is a fungus

I've also found a few species that appear to have the wrong taxon group associated:

Cyrtomium fortunei (NBNORG0000116765,NHMSYS0021128402) is linked to flowering plants but it's a fern
Dryopteris cambrensis subsp. cambrensis (NBNORG0000116768,NHMSYS0021128408) is also linked to flowering plants but it's a fern
Herbertus norenus (NBNORG0000116595,NHMSYS0021125883) is linked to mosses but it's a liverwort
Rhyacodrilus subterraneus (NBNORG0000122890,NHMSYS0021168947) is linked to acarine (Acari) but should be an annelid
Strigula stigmatella (NBNORG0000084465,NBNORG0000016164) is linked to fungus when its two varieties are lichens

Hi

Thanks. R6 follows the UKSI, so I have let Chris Raper know so that he can investigate and make the necessary corrections.

Re: Dictionary 4V

Thanks Mike.

I've just looked up Metzgeria pubescens on the UKSI (https://www.nhm.ac.uk/our-science/data/ … scens.html) - it's a synonym for the preferred name Apometzgeria pubescens - in R6 the recommended name is Metzgeria pubescens which incorrectly appears as a Mollusc in the Master List.

When I search R6 for Apometzgeria pubescens it's found on the BBS checklist and shows Metzgeria pubescens as the recommended name.

It seems R6 and the UKSI disagree on this one!

Hi

Chris  has responded as follows  "I'll check those out and fix them. Certainly the Metzgeria was flagged up a few weeks ago and has been fixed in my copy, along with one or two others. "

R6 uses the UKSI Master list at the date provided (18/10/2020) and doesn't change it in any significant way., so I suspect that this problem was fixed after the update date.  Taxon Lists represent the view of the list provider at the time the list was produced and are often not be in line with the Organism table. As many of the list providers are no longer updating their lists, differences will become more frequent. However, the lists in R6 are taken unchanged form the  UKSI.
