Topic: Streptopelia decaocto - nativity of

Streptopelia decaocto is listed on the UKSI sandbox and in the ORGANISM table in Recorder 6 as non-native (non_native_flag == Y) but on the NBN Atlas as Native.

Which is right... ? See also https://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?id=7299

(i'm on dict ver 4K so might be out of date?)

Re: Streptopelia decaocto - nativity of

Hi Charlie,
The NBN Atlas uses the taxon list 'GBNNSIP checklist of non-native species' (TLIK=NHMSYS0021113416) to determine the native/non-native status of each taxa. I was told that the non_native_flag on the Organism table was not always up to date.

Streptopelia decaocto is on a list called GBNNSIP checklist of non-native species but it says 'not recommended' against the entry and the TLIK is different, which will be why we missed it when we updated the species dictionary. I will ask Chris what this list is.

For example, the Grey squirrel page (http://nbn-sd-dev.nhm.ac.uk/taxon.php?l … 0000332764) has a section for Non-native status,

Re: Streptopelia decaocto - nativity of

Thanks Sophie - I had read that the non_native_flag was populated by being on that list !

I would assume Streptopelia decaocto shouldn't be marked as non-native (i.e. NBN is correct), but it depends on the definition of "non-native".

Re: Streptopelia decaocto - nativity of

Hi Charlie

Looks to be a typo of some kind - I'll remove the flag. As Sophie says, the GBNNSIP list is usually the primary list of non-natives but I occasionally flip the switch for taxa that I have added but which haven't yet been added to the GBNNSIP list.

Best wishes,
Chris R.
