Re: Fish Query

Hi Chris,

This particular topic has now been running for 3.5 years.  Do you have any further news on how, if or when the mentioned fish will be added to the UKSI and beyond ??

Many thanks.
Steve

Re: Fish Query

Hi Steve

A decision has been made ... they're going in! With that in mind would you be able to work out a list and let us know what you think their current establishment status is? Is this the definitive list:

American Flag Fish (Jordanella floridae, Goode & T. H. Bean, 1879)
Swordtail (Xiphophorus hellerii, Heckel, 1848)
Platy (Xiphophorus maculatus, (Günther, 1866))
Angel Fish (Pterophyllum altum, Pellegrin, 1903)
Tilapia zilla.
Tilapia galilae.
Tilapia peacock.
Tilapia mariae.
Convict Cichlid (Cichlasoma nigrofasciatum).
Mozambique Mouthbrooder (Oreochromis mossambicus).
Liberty Molly (Poecilia salvatoris).
Oscar (Astronotus ocellatus)

Thanks

Re: Fish Query

Hi Chris,

Many thanks for this and my apologies for being such a hassle for you over the past times.

The list looks definitive to me, I cannot remember any other species being caught/recorded and have not been able to turn up any others on the Internet searches I have done.

Ref their status - at the time (early 1960s to early 70s) the livebearers, the Flag Fish and the cichlids were certainly breeding in the waters of the canal (along with Guppies by the thousands) judging from the ones I caught and sold to the pet shop in Widnes.  Now they are all extinct as Pilkington Glass Works which heated the water, which was used for cooling the glass making processes, is now merely a Museum with no industrial processes still in place - the waters are cold.

Hope that helps - shout if you need more.

Thanks once again.

Angel Fish
Cichlasoma nigrofasciatum (Günther, 1867)
Convict Cichlid

Liberty Molly

Thanks

Re: Fish Query

Many thanks Chris - appreciated.

Ref. Tilapia peacock - I cannot find it either - I would think it is fine to leave it off unless or until someone brings a record to light.

Cheers,
Steve
