Topic: Different Recommended Taxon Name and Full Recommended Taxon Name

Just spotted something unusual in a Recorder export:

Intermediate Screw-moss is given the Recommended Taxon Name of Tortula intermedia, but the Full Recommended Taxon Name of Syntrichia montana Nees.

Is there a reason this would be correct?  If not, is this a dictionary issue or should I report it elsewhere?

Thanks,
Linds

Re: Different Recommended Taxon Name and Full Recommended Taxon Name

Hi Lindsay

I'm not really sure what the problem is that you are describing. Here the Recommended Scientific name is Syntrichia montana, the recommended English vernacular is Intermediate Screw-moss. This seems to be correct when compared to other online sources. What exactly is your worry about this? What do you think it should be?

Best wishes,
Chris R.

Re: Different Recommended Taxon Name and Full Recommended Taxon Name

Hi Chris,

It was more a discrepancy in 2 slightly different fields for scientific name when I ran a report from within Recorder - 'Recommended Taxon Name' and 'Full Recommended Taxon Name'.  I'd expect the content only to differ in that 'Full Recommended Taxon' would include the naming authority, but instead it gave 'Tortula intermedia' and 'Syntrichia montana Nees'.

I wasn't sure if this was a dictionary issue or if it's something to do with its implementation in Recorder so whether I should report it elsewhere for Mike's (etc) attention?

Thanks,
Linds

Re: Different Recommended Taxon Name and Full Recommended Taxon Name

Ahh, I see - I think that's more of a Recorder6 problem. Here in the UKSI it seems to be set up correctly. Here is the page for it in the sandbox, showing the recommended TVK is correctly given as Syntrichia montana:

The database pases all of the usual integrity checks with no problems.
