Topic: Eurrhynchium praelongum

Hi Chris,

The Common Feather-moss (Eurhynchium praelongum) has changed its genus to Kindbergia and the specific name has had its gender changed so that the name is now (Kindbergia praelonga).

This change is shown in the UKSI but when using the NBN online dictionary, used within the programs Gilbert-21 and RODIS, the name is ONLY showing as the older variant of Eurhynchium praelongum.

Any thoughts on why this should be the case ??

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Eurrhynchium praelongum

Hi Steve

That's actually a very new change (along with a lot of others!) instigated by Oli Pescott and much delayed by myself due to other competing priorities, hence it didn't make the recent NBN update.

Best wishes,
Chris R.

Interesting - it is actually shown as Kindbergia in "Mosses and Liverworts of Britain and Ireland - a field guide" published by the British Bryological Society in 2010.

Yes, the mosses haven't been updated for ages, I suspect. They're getting done now - at least the master taxonomy. The BBS checklist hasn't been updated (yet) but we could do that from the master taxonomy, if needed. But a lot of the groups are goign away from fixed lists and we're just maintaining the master taxonomy because the new platforms like iRecord don't use the checklists anyway. :)
