Topic: Vascular Plants Red List

Has the England Red List for plants superceded older Red List GB statuses?  I say this as we have noticed that Heather (Calluna vulgaris) is flagging up as Near Threatened.  As someone who lives near Edinburgh, I can assure you that this isn't the case up here.  The master list seems to have two statuses for this, Least Concern based on a GB Red List from 2006, and Near Threatened based on the England Red List.  Recorder 6 seems to use the England list when exporting statuses.  Can anyone advise?

Re: Vascular Plants Red List

Hello Steve

The England Red List and GB Red List are different red listing statuses so the England Red List does not supercede the GB Red List. The England Red List designation category for Calluna vulgaris, until recently, was however flagged as the same as the GB Red list category so that the two statuses appeared to be under the GB Red Listing.

The England Red List category has now been updated in the JNCC Designation master list to make the distinction between the 2 Red List statuses clear (the England Red List designation abbreviation for Calluna vulgaris is now RedList_ENG_post2001-NT instead of RedList_GB_post2001-NT with a different UKSI Taxon_Designation_Type_Key). These changes have been passed on to UK Species Inventory so that they should make their way into Recorder 6 when Recorder 6 species dictionary is next updated.

Least Concern designations in the JNCC Designations master spreadsheet are not include in the UK Species Inventory and so Calluna vulgaris GB Red List Least Concern designation will not appear when used in Recorder 6.

Best wishes

Graham
