Topic: Cirsium acanthoides

Hi Chris

Can you add Cirsium acanthoides L. as a synonym of ... Carduus acanthoides (?)

There seems (to me!) to be a lot of confusion around Carduus and Cirsium so happy to take expert advice on what the recommended name should be - Carduus crispus subsp. multiflorus ?

Thanks!!

Re: Cirsium acanthoides

Just heard back from Fred Rumsey who says "There is no such thing as Cirsium acanthoides L.  – this is obviously an error." So I think you probably just need to decide what to do with that record. If you know it is for Carduus then just amend it and make a note of what you did :)

Re: Cirsium acanthoides

Thanks Chris - it seems to be a bit of pervasive error: http://internt.nhm.ac.uk/our-science/da … associates

!

Mostly old (pre-1800) references it seems, but a few recent non-English papers seem to have picked it up as well.
