Topic: Turnip Mud Beetle

It has been brought to my attention that this vernacular name is applied to three beetles:
Harpalus (Pseudoophonus) rufipes
Helophorus (Empleurus) porculus
Helophorus (Empleurus) rufipes

Assuming that my contact is correct, can the name be disconnected from Harpalus?

Hi Dave

I have chatted to Mark Gurney and he says the situation is a bit more complex:

1. Harpalus (Pseudoophonus) rufipes is an error - this is something unrelated so I have taken the name off this
2. Although the vernacular name Turnip Mud Beetle can apply to both Helophorus spp. he feels that the only people using the vernacular name would be those treating it as an aggregate, so I have created Helophorus porculus/rufipes agg. and moved the name here.
