Topic: Preferred checklist- New Forest Cicada

New Forest Cicada, Cicadetta montana
Taxon version key: NBNSYS0000169070
This species appears to only be present in the BRC/Recorder 3 checklist in Recorder 6. It is a native British species so does anyone know why it is not in the Preferred checklist for Hemipetera?

Hi Jasmine

That is probably best directed at someone like Alan Stewart or Tristan Bantock but it might be that Cicadas are just such an odd/rare group that they have fallen between the gaps in the bug recording schemes. I will forward this to Alan Stewart and see if he has included it in the current bug checklist.

I have chatted with Alan and I think there has been some confusion at my end. New Forest Cicada is in the UKSI of course but not in any of the existing recommended checklists. This is probably only because an updated bug checklist hasn't been imported yet. Many species exist in the database but are not attached to a recommended list but is this causing you problems in any way?
