Topic: NBN Gateway and feedback

We appreciate your ongoing concerns regarding the NBN Gateway and we are monitoring the Forum for posts and feedback.  However, as mentioned in August’s Network News “the scope to expand the technological functionality offered by the current system is limited, so it has unfortunately become unviable to continue to support and develop the NBN Gateway as our data sharing infrastructure.”  https://nbn.org.uk/news/future-nbn-gate … cess-data/
Unfortunately, this means that we can only try to stabilise the performance of the current Gateway to try and minimise the issues with downtime.  As soon as the NBN Secretariat or the development team are aware of the Gateway being offline, we will endeavour to post in this Forum and will keep you informed, as far as we can, with likely timescales for resolving the issues.

Please be assured that we do note your comments and feedback, but it is not always possible to respond to every message in the Forum's various threads.  We do, however, value ongoing, helpful feedback.

Thank you.

Re: NBN Gateway and feedback

Over the last 24 hours there has been considerable discussion about this announcement amongst the biological recorders in the Outer Hebrides and some of our colleagues in the Highlands.  We have been pro-active in reporting problems with the stability of the Gateway because it is such a vital tool in maintaining the flow of high quality data to the NBN database and plays an important role in motivating recorders.
We understand that resources are very limited and that the current priority is to replace the Gateway with the NBN Atlas. There has been no announcement as to when the Atlas will be fully functional and although the Atlas of Living Scotland is “live” there appears to be a great deal of work required both on the infra-structure and content before it can replace the Gateway.
We trust that the NBN Executive is fully aware of the implications of this decision for both the data suppliers and data users and that this will be taken into consideration when it comes to the allocation of resources.  We are not asking for further development on the Gateway, just for it to be sufficiently maintained to provide its users with a reliable service until the Atlas is ready.
