Topic: Missing beetles

Hi Chris, I think the following are missing from the dictionary (Duff, 2008/2012):

- Phloeopora scribae Eppelsheim, 1884 (P. bernhaueri should be a synonym)

- Pella cognata (Märkel, 1842) (Zyras cognatus should be a synonym)
- Pella funesta (Gravenhorst, 1806) (Zyras funestus should be a synonym)
- Pella humeralis (Gravenhorst, 1802) (Zyras humeralis should be a synonym)
- Pella laticollis (Märkel, 1845) (Zyras laticollis should be a synonym)
- Pella limbata (Paykull, 1789) (Zyras limbatus should be a synonym)
- Pella lugens (Gravenhorst, 1802) (Zyras lugens  should be a synonym)

- Pella Stephens, 1835 (with the synonyms  Zyras sensu auctt. partim non Stephens, 1835 and Myrmedonia sensu auctt. non Erichson, 1837)

- Cryptophagus denticulatus Heer, 1841 (with the synonyms C. pilosus Gyllenhal, 1827 non Herbst, 1792, C. pallidus sensu auctt. Brit. non Sturm, 1845 and C. pseudodentatus Bruce, 1934)

- Latridius porcatus  Herbst, 1793 (L. anthracinus Mannerheim, 1844 should be a synoynm, and L. minutus sensu auctt. partim non (Linnaeus, 1767), L. ?pulla Marsham, 1802 and L. minutissimus Motschulsky, 1858 need adding as synonyms)

- Atomaria rhenonum Kraatz, 1853 (A. (Anchicera) rhenana Kraatz, 1853 as a synonym, with A. elevata Allen, 1938 and A. godarti sensu Sjöberg, 1947 non Guillebeau, 1885 adding as synonyms)

@@@ Gateway down so can't check the following synonyms if they're present or not @@@

- Tetralaucopora longitarsis (Erichson, 1837)
- Charagmus griseus (Fabricius, 1775) (from memory, this is down as Sitona griseus)

Also, Cyptophagus don't appear with subgenera in Duff's checklist, but they do on the Gateway?

That's all for now (apols for any dupes/if I missed something). Let me know if that doesn't make sense! :)

Re: Missing beetles

Thanks Charlie - I will get onto that when I can. The database is being worked on by the mycologists at the moment but I hope to get back onto it soon :)

Re: Missing beetles

OK, I have done all of those except the last few - can you confirm what should happen?

"- Charagmus griseus (Fabricius, 1775) (from memory, this is down as Sitona griseus)"

So which is the accepted name?

"- Tetralaucopora longitarsis (Erichson, 1837)"

This is a new junior synonym for Parocyusa longitarsis (Erichson, 1837) ?

"Also, Cyptophagus don't appear with subgenera in Duff's checklist, but they do on the Gateway?"

I don't have any name starting with "Cyptophagus"

Re: Missing beetles

My reliance on the NBN Gateway becomes apparent - I obviously broke down along with it! I've added a few more into the mix...

- add Charagmus griseus (Fabricius, 1775)

- add Sitona sensu auctt. partim non Germar, 1817 as a synonym of Charagmus Schönherr, 1826

- change Charagmus gressorius (Fabricius, 1792) to the genus Sitona (Germar, 1817)

- change Parocyusa Bernhauer, 1902 to a synonym of Tetralaucopora Bernhauer, 1928

- remove subgenus Cryptophagus (Cryptophagus) Paykull, 1800

- change the subgenus Cryptophagus (Mnionomus) Wollaston, 1864 to a synonym of the genus Cryptophagus Paykull, 1800

- change the author of Cryptophagus Paykull, 1800 to Herbst, 1792

Re: Missing beetles

Phew, those have all been done now ... the removal of subgenera caused lots of synonymy changes - promoting the names without subgenera in them ... took ages LOL  :)
