Topic: Melanophthalma

Hi Chris - me again :)

I'm going to go out on a limb and say something is awry with the genus Melanophthalma.

The NBN Gateway lists:
Genus            Melanophthalma Motschulsky, 1866
Species            Melanophthalma curticollis (Mannerheim, 1844)
Species            Melanophthalma distinguenda (Comolli, 1837)
Species            Melanophthalma transversalis (Gyllenhal, 1827)
Species            Melanophthalma suturalis (Mannerheim, 1844)
Species pro parte    Melanophthalma transversalis sensu auctt. partim non (Gyllenhal, 1827)

Whereas Duff 2008/2012 lists:
MELANOPHTHALMA Motschulsky, 1866
distinguenda (Comolli, 1837)
angulata sensu auctt. Brit. non (Wollaston, 1864)
suturalis (Mannerheim, 1844) 581
transversalis sensu auctt. partim non (Gyllenhal, 1827)
transversalis (Gyllenhal, 1827)
    curticollis (Mannerheim, 1844)
    wollastoni (Waterhouse, G.R., 1859)

So,
- Melanophthalma curticollis (Mannerheim, 1844): needs to be a synonym of Melanophthalma transversalis (Gyllenhal, 1827)

- Melanophthalma transversalis sensu auctt. partim non (Gyllenhal, 1827): needs to be a synonym of Melanophthalma suturalis (Mannerheim, 1844) - not Melanophthalma transversalis

- Melanophthalma wollastoni (Waterhouse, G.R., 1859): should be a synonym of Melanophthalma transversalis (Gyllenhal, 1827), not Melanophthalma curticollis (Mannerheim, 1844)

- Melanophthalma angulata sensu auctt. Brit. non (Wollaston, 1864) : should be a synonym of Melanophthalma distinguenda (Comolli, 1837)

But feel free to correct me!

Re: Melanophthalma

OK, that looks fairly easy - I will add that to the list - thanks Charlie :)

Re: Melanophthalma

Hi Charlie

I have done those changes now - all except the "Melanophthalma angulata sensu auctt. Brit. non (Wollaston, 1864)" as it doesn't exist in the system at the moment and it is a bit of an obscure junior synonym :)

Best wishes,
Chris R.

Re: Melanophthalma

Thanks Chris. Just have to remember why I needed those changes!
