Topic: Erroneous synonymy

I have found a problem with the moth named 'White Spot'

There are two unrelated species,
NBNSYS0000005989 Geometrid Hypagyrtis unipunctata BFN 1898 and
NBNSYS0000006265 Noctuid Hadena albimacula BFN 2172

According to the NBNGateway, the Hypagyrtis is a synonym of Hadena!

Re: Erroneous synonymy

Hi Craig

Mea culpa! That might have been caused by my over-zealous synonymising routine, which used Common Name as one of the factors linking taxonomic concepts together. I thought I'd caught all of the valid duplicate names but I will unpick that one on Wednesday when I am sat in the office with my copy of the Lepidoptera checklist :)

Best wishes,
Chris R.
