Topic: English/Vernacular Names for Blowflies

Chris,

Steven Falk has just completed and released for testing a new Draft Key to British Blowflies (March 2016).  In it, as well as the keys to species and species descriptions, he has lots of photographs of the individual species and of the sexual dimorphism between males and females (where this is appropriate).  It would appear to be a superb new key and one which I am sure will generate and bring in lots more Blowfly records from around the country.

However, as with his recent British Bees book, he has provided a good number of English/Vernacular names for the various blowfly species - I have checked a few on the UKSI and none of the ones I checked were currently on.  Could I ask you to go through the new key (link below) and to put the new names as synonyms for the relevant species in the UKSI please.

Many thanks,
Steve

Re: English/Vernacular Names for Blowflies

Hi Steve

Thanks for reminding me - I have just emailed Steven to ask whether he has a "translation table" of scientific names & common names, that I could use here to add his common names. I will report back how it goes :)

Best wishes,
Chris R.

Re: English/Vernacular Names for Blowflies

Steve gave me a list of names this evening - it was a bit fiddly to get them into an importable format but they are in the UKSI now and looking pretty good so far :)  Some of Steve's scientific names are slightly different to ours and it required 3 non-native taxa to be added :)

If Steve can get a similar table of blowfly names then I'd be happy to add those :)
