Topic: Birds of Conservation Concern 4 (BoCC4)

Hi
We've just had a query regarding one of our data searches and how herring gull was not listed as a Priority species in our report. The consultant noted that he had been "going through a lot of records from a number of data centres and none have updated the bird lists to reflect the recent BoCC4 which was released in December last year."

I've been unable to open the BoCC4 report to check the status of this species in the new list but on Recorder 6 its got various statuses (our report actually lists it as BRed - Red Data List) so I'm not quite sure what he meant. That notwithstanding, are these changes likely to be coming through in a Recorder 6 update any time soon?

Thanks

Depends when the JNCC updates the master designation spread sheet.

Herring gull is on the Red list in BoCC4 - but it was also on the Red list in BoCC3. It should have been picked up by the Bird Population Status - red designation in Recorder (which I believe represents the 'current' BoCC).

I've attached two R6 rucksacks for the current BoCC4 Amber and Red lists in case they are of any use to people until the official designations are updated. Compiled at species level using the BIRDS dictionary and using the lists from the BOCC4 leaflet.

Hi
Thanks. Yes it did get picked up as BRed in the output, I'm not sure what else he wanted!

Thanks for the rucksack Mark, that's really helpful.
