Topic: Marine mammal to add

Hello,

Would it be possible to add Bowhead Whale (Balaena mysticetus) to the UK species list please? A confirmed sighting on St Martin's Isle of Scilly in February 2015.

Species ID confirmed by Peter Evans from Sea Watch Foundation, Dr Tom Jefferson from Texas A&M University, Dr Phil Clapham from NOAA in Washington DC, and Dr Scott Kraus from New England Whale Museum in Provincetown.

Hi Niki

That's an interesting one. We have had that species in the database for a while but it was flagged as 'redundant' and 'non-native' because presumably we hadn't had any confirmed sightings here and the name had just come to us on an international treaty list. I have just switched those flags off so it should appear in the system after the next update. Do you need iRecord to be changed to allow a record to be added?

Defiantly a very interesting record. Caused a flurry of emails trying to confirm the ID.
I would need it on the iRecord/Indicia list please, I'll be adding it to our online recording site which is based on indicia (ORKS . org.uk).
