Topic: Export to GIS - date issue

I have just tried exporting a report to GIS and the export has worked fine apart from the Sample Date column, which has been converted into a random 5 digit number, as Excel is prone to doing if the formatting is not correct. In Excel the problem can be solved by changing the format, but i cannot change the cell format in the ArcGIS attribute table to get the dates to display properly. Is there a way of making sure the dates export to GIS in the right format?

thanks

Re: Export to GIS - date issue

That's not a random number, it's the number of days since the beginning of the twentieth century. In other words it is a date.

Afraid I haven't ever had this problem though, so i can't come up with a solution for you

Re: Export to GIS - date issue

I can confirm this bug - sample date is displayed as an Excel serial date when exporting to SHP (fine when exporting to Excel).

You may have to resort to Python in ArcGIS to get the date in the right format see e.g. http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/ … -in-arcgis or VBscript (?) e.g. http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/conve … e.2227490/
