Re: dictionary update released

A further update to Recorder 6's dictionary has been released - see http://forums.nbn.org.uk/recorderWebsit … grades.htm for details.

If you are unsure how to proceed with upgrading your copy of Recorder 6 and the database please refer to the guidance document available on the uploads page see 'Guidelines for upgrading to V6.9.3 from V6.6.8' at http://forums.nbn.org.uk/uploads.php.

If you are upgrading from V6.9.3 onwards (and have completed the 6.9.3 dictionary upgrade too - see above document for details) you need to:

- Download and run the V610 Upgrade (V610Upgrade.zip) from the Recorder Software Upgrades page - see http://forums.nbn.org.uk/recorderWebsite/upgrades.htm

- Then download the 'Dictionary Upgrade Kit' (V2) from the Recorder Software Dictionary upgrades page.

- Download the following files from the Dictionary Upgrades page; 00000004.sql, 00000005.zip, 00000006.zip, 00000007.zip, 00000008.sql, 00000009.sql, 0000000A.sql and run them as a 'batch' using the Dictionary Upgrade kit.

- Then download the remaining 2 dictionary upgrade files; 0000000B.zip, 0000000C.sql and run them as a 'batch' using the Dictionary Upgrade kit.

You should then be completely up to date!

If you have already upgraded to V6.10 or have installed V6.10 you just need to download the Dictionary Upgrade Kit (V2) from the website (or copy to your hard disk from the V6.10 install CD) and download and run the two new dictionary upgrade files - 0000000B.zip and 0000000C.sql.

If you are unsure about how to run dictionary upgrade files please refer to the information provided on the Dictionary upgrades page (see link above).

Re: dictionary update released

Hi Sarah

I have downloaded the two files that I needed to have to upgrade the dictionaries and run the DictionaryUpgrade.exe program and was told that the dictionary upgrade completed. It was very quick. I then checked the taxonomic list to see if the Pied/White Wagtail issue was sorted as I have been promised it would be for so long... No change, it is still the incorrect entry 'Pied Wagtail, Motacilla alba'. I have been patiently waiting for about a year for this to be sorted and recently John Tweddle assured me via the forum that it (and other bird subspecies issues) would be sorted with the next upgrade.

Where are these changes? Why have they still not been implemented?

No Christmas present for me then!

Cheers isn't the correct word, Ian

Re: dictionary update released

Hi Ian

When you say that it ran quickly - how long did it take (it took about 20 minutes to run for me).

Also are you saying that you can't see the two subspecies? Just to double check have you rebuilt the indexes?

Many thanks,

Re: dictionary update released

Yes, just to confirm the update should take some time to complete; if it didn't then I think something must have not worked.

Re: dictionary update released

Hi Sarah and Charles

The update may have taken one, perhaps two minutes. No, I didn't rebuild the indexes. Should I just run the process again? I shall try that and see what happens.

You have not confirmed, but are the bird subspecies in this update?

Cheers, Ian

Re: dictionary update released

Hi Sarah and Charles

Hooray and many thanks! The dictionary rebuild seemed to do the trick - subspecies are there for Brent Goose and Pied/White Wagtail. That is going to be very, very helpful.

The only thing that worries me is that in the taxonomic list someone has put 'subsp' or similar in the scientific names. I hope that does not have to be included in the import wizard but I shall find out soon enough, I guess. Why is it there? Surely everyone using R6 knows about trinomial scientific names for subspecies?

If it does have to be included in the import wizard it will be a minor irritation. The crucial thing is being able to differentiate them! Now I have to alter all the existing records - oh for that search and replace function I asked for in another thread....

Merry Christmas to you all!

Cheers, Ian

Re: dictionary update released

Hi Ian

I gave importing one of the pied wagtail subspecies a go and I think you would have to include 'subsp.' to get a straight automatic match. However, if you imported a record without the 'subsp.' bit in it and manually matched it once to the correct subspecies then the import wizard should then remember this and automatically match it in this way in the future.
