Topic: Hybrid geese (& possibly ducks!)

Hi
One of our data entry volunteers has just come across a record of a Greylag Goose x Canada Goose, Anser anser x Branta Canadensis and we can't find any match in Recorder 6 for this. They seem to be cropping up a bit but possibly haven't been recorded much so far. He has also noted that in his other volunteer role working at Slimbridge he has come across a couple of hybrid ducks that he couldn't match either.

Is it possible to add such hybrids to the additional species list or should I consult BTO about these?

Thanks

Re: Hybrid geese (& possibly ducks!)

Purgle is correct in that many records of such hybrids must be missed from recording due to their lack of usable entries on various recording systems which use the NBN Dictionary as the basis for their species matching.

I have certainly seen a fair number of such hybrid geese and ducks on ponds and lakes and in reserves in the Cheshire and Merseyside areas which I have been unable to record due to this issue (even the ones where I have been able to ID the parentage).
