Topic: Deergrass (Trichophorum caespitosum)

Is there are reason that the Preferred TVK for Trichophorum caespitosum is now the version in the 'List of additional names' rather than the one in the Vascular plants list?
Surely the RTVK in Nameserver should be NHMSYS0000464550, not NHMSYS0021007976?

Re: Deergrass (Trichophorum caespitosum)

Hi Dave

The problem was created by the addition of a "s.str." concept which created a "s.lat." concept (to reduce confusion) to contain the previously used names. The change came about as a result of this thread on the forum, from Aisling:

If you can see a problem then do let me know and I'll look into it :)

Best wishes,

Fair enough Chris - I missed that subtlety when looking at the names in R6!

With the publication of the new Vascular plants Red List it seems an appropriate time to ask again whether there has been any progress with the BSBI vascular plants list and to enquire as to how soon the new Red List will be incorporated into R6?

Re: Deergrass (Trichophorum caespitosum)

Hi Rob

Nothing significant has happened but I bumped into Tom Humphrey of the BSBI at a meeting a month ago (it seems to be the season for meetings, workshops & conferences!) and he seemed to think that he could extract what they hold. I haven't had time to chase this up yet, as I have been working on the huge MSBIAS checklist and the GBNNSIP checklist of non-natives, but I will do when I get a slot. I have also been given a spreadsheet copy of the Stace3 names and I could use this but I'd rather use whatever the BSBI hold if it is possible to get hold of this fairly quickly.

In the meantime I am happy to create any names/concepts that people need to get them over a particular problem. I recently had to look at Dactylorhiza because I have been sent an old name (used in a statute) that doesn't even map to a current concept! While looking at this I also re-jigged a few of the names to match Stace3.

Best wishes,
Chris R.

Chris

Please see the later posts in this thread http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php? … 30#p21630, if Mike hasn't already been on to you about it. Taxonomic sorting of vascular plants in R6 is a hopeless mess. I will be communicating this to BSBI personally (as a member), but I can't stress enough how inconvenient it is that one of the best recorded taxonomic groups is still experiencing these difficulties after all this time.
