Topic: Another Hierarchy problem

On the Recorder 3.3 checklist Elipsocus moebiusi is on its own at the same level as 'Order' when it should be within the Psocoptera - I assume this is a Rec6 problem as the hierarchy is correct on the NHM website and the NBN Gateway

Re: Another Hierarchy problem

I've just checked and the hierarchy is correct on the Psocoptera preferred checklist

Incidentally on the preferred list Elipsocus pumilis and E.pumilis sensu lato are both given equal level, surely E.pumilis should be a child of the sensu lato ... together with at least another species? Not a group I know anything about ;)

Re: Another Hierarchy problem

Eww, that Recorder 3.3 checklist will cause problems forever more! I think the stance I usually take is that if any mistake in the checklist is causing grief outside the list (in R6 etc) or a name needs amending to prevent extra synonymisation elsewhere then that is doable. But I don't routinely correct the many mistakes in things like the hierarchy because it's a can of worms ;)

As to the parent child relationships between species and species-sensu-latu, generally speaking an s.l. shares the same parent as the species that form the concept if they all share the same genus - otherwise it points to the next shared parent. Any other arrangement gets very tricky to maintain and causes no end of trouble ... keep it simple :D

It's for this reason I've disabled the Recorder 3.3 list for data entry. If I ever get the time I will transfer the 721,332 or so records using the Recorder 3.3 list to a preferred list... (anyone fancing writing me a batch update?)
