Topic: Faulty taxon search again

I don't know if this is for UKSI or for Recorder, but here goes.

Unguiculariopsis lettaui (Grummann) Coppins, NBNSYS0000019291 is definitely in the G5 lists (from where I copied this reference).

However, if you enter the entire genus + species into the taxon search box, it returns nothing.

A bit of playing about shows that if you enter Unguiculariopsi (yes, missing the last 's'), the correct listing of genus and species names is given.  Add that 's' and nothing.

The species name works as it should.

Something odd about that last 's' seems to be the cause.  Bewildering!

I suppose it might be that no-one thought a genus would ever have 16 letters?

Could be it, as Pseudoscorpiones does the same thing. These can't be the only two names that length, so please change the string limits.

Ditto with species names as well: Subcoccinella vigintiquattuorpunctata

(Unguiculariopsis - that's a corker of a genus!)

Re: Faulty taxon search again

Yes, which is why - before anyone points out that I might have entered 'ung let' - I copied the name and pasted it. Keep a dog, why bark yourself?  The species is a lichenicolous fungus on Evernia prunastri, and I think I have some on my desk - hence my interest.

I realise I have made a right Horlicks of this post, which is now clearly a G5 problem (why did I not guess that at the start?), not UKSI or Recorder, but I really can't be bothered to move it to Comments. I am not paid to do the beta testing that should have been done months ago.

Hello Murdo

It seems the search functionality has been set to search on words 15 characters or less. I have just tried the fungus Echidnodes aulographoidesaulographoides and it worked until 'aulographoidesau' I will flag this with the Gateway developers. In the meantime to search on these taxa with more than 15 characters in the name, you can use the taxoncode (first 2 letters of the genus, 3 letters of the species eg ecaul) or as you suggest 3 or more letters from the genus and species with a space between eg ech aul)

Best wishes

Graham
