Topic: another strange preferred taxon behaviour in Recorder

I think this is a Recorder problem NOT the NHM species Dictionary

I have a record entered as 'Woodlouse' - stupid I know, but it was done!

HOWEVER, in the survey/sample panel this is reported as "Woodlouse (Ligidium hypnorum)" which is blatantly wrong!

Re: another strange preferred taxon behaviour in Recorder

It isn't Recorder 6.  The Recorder 3.3 list  is the only place Woodlouse appears as a common name for a species and the preferred  name for this is Ligidium hypnorum. Woodlouse also appears as the Common name for  Isopoda, but nowhere else. I have investigated this on the NHM database, before it is processed by Recorder.

There is a mechanism for fixing Common Names which are wrong without changing the actual list and I  will see what needs to be in this case

There are not many places where the R6 dictionary  isn't exactly in line with the NHM list. Nearly all differences which were once there have been resolved.  The main differnences  now are that   Recommended Taxon List Item Key isn't part of the NHM database and is worked out from the Recommended Taxon Version key.  Also the NHM list has no preferred Common Names, so R6 chooses a Common name based on what is available, giving priority to the preferred lists. However, this doesn't apply in the case of Ligidium hypnorum as there is only Common name available for this,

Mike has suggested a way to fix this behind the scenes and I have modified the table accordingly - hopefully that will fix it in later releases :)

Dictionary Upgrades 26/27/28 are attached which correct this problem and also the  problem with 'Magpie' reported  elsewhere. These upgrades will be available shortly on the R6 website.
