Re: More Scale Insectes Required In Dictionary
The following Scale Insect species need adding to the Dictionary:
- Hydrangea Scale Insect - Pulvinaria hydrangeae Steinweden, 1946
- Woolly Currant Scale Insect - Pulvinaria ribesiae Signoret, 1873
- Woolly Vine Scale Insect - Pulvinaria vitis (Linnaeus, 1758)
and of course, the Scale Insect previously requested:
- Horse Chestnut Scale Insect - Pulvinaria regalis Canard, 1968
The names "Horse Chestnut Scale Insect" and "Pulvinaria regails Canard, 1968" should be synonimised UNDER Pulvinaria vitis (Linnaeus, 1758) as per the 2008 paper "Cytogenetic studies of European Pulvinariini (Homoptera: Coccidae)" by I.A. Gavrilov, I.V. Trapeznikova published in Comparative Cytogenetics, 2008 . Vol. 2, No. 2, P. 131-138. ISSN 1993-0771 (Print), ISSN 1993-078X (Online) which states:
"As for Pulvinaria regalis Canard, 1968, syn. n., we are placing this nominal species in synonymy under Pulvinaria vitis Linnaeus, 1758. There are no morphological differences between the type series of P. regalis, studied by the first author in Paris Museum d’Histoire Naturelle and numerous series of P. vitis from different Palaearctic regions."
