Topic: Scale Insects and Whitefly Additions Needed

Dear Chris,

I have recently been sent a list of Scale Insect records for Cheshire (VC-58) by Dr Chris Malumphy of The Food and Environment Research Agency (FERA) which included one species of Aleyrodidae (Whitefly).  Sadly, I have been unable to enter the majority of the records in this list as the names are not currently on the NBN Species Dictionary.  There is probably a requirement for complete Scale Insect (Coccidae) and Whitefly (Aleyrodidae) lists to be added to the dictionary but in the meantime can I possibly ask that the species below are included so that I can get get Chris' data into the rECOrd database:

Scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccoidea):

Dysmicoccus walkeri (Newstead, 1891)
Heterococcus pulverarius (Newstead)
Phenacoccus aceris (Signoret, 1875) - Polyphagous Tree Mealybug
Spinococcus calluneti (Lindinger, 1912)
Trionymus perrisii (Signoret, 1875)
Coccus hesperidum (Linnaeus, 1758) - Brown Soft Scale
Eriopeltis festucae (Boyer de Fonscolombe 1834)
Eulecanium ciliatum (Douglas, 1891) - Ciliate Oak Scale
Eulecanium tiliae (Linnaeus, 1758) - Nut Scale
Lichtensia viburni Signoret, 1873 - Viburnum Scale
Luzulaspis luzulae (Dufour, 1864)
Parthenolecanium corni (Bouché, 1844) - European Fruit Lecanium
Parthenolecanium pomeranicum (Kawecki 1954) - Yew Scale
Pulvinaria floccifera (Westwood, 1870) - Cottony Camellia Scale
Cryptococcus fagisuga Lindinger, 1936 - Beech Scale
Eriococcus insignis Newstead, 1891
Pseudochermes fraxini (Kaltenbach, 1860) - Ash Bark Scale
Asterodiaspis variolosa (Ratzeburg, 1870) - Golden Pit Scale
Carulaspis minima (Signoret, 1869) - Minute Cypress Scale
Diaspidiotus zonatus (Frauenfeld, 1868) - Zonate Armoured Scale
Lepidosaphes chinensis Chamberlin, 1925 - Chinese Mussel Scale
Lepidosaphes ulmi (Linnaeus, 1758) - Mussel Scale

Whitefly (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae):

Aleurotuba jelinekii (Frauenfeld, 1867) - Viburnum Whitefly

Cheers and many thanks.

Re: Scale Insects and Whitefly Additions Needed

Chris,

It seems at least some of the scale insects above have been requested before (back in 2011) - see here:  http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?pid=9102#p9102

Could you possibly check to see if these were ever added and if not then follow the others in this thread up as well please ?

Many thanks.

Re: Scale Insects and Whitefly Additions Needed

Hi Steve

No problem - thanks for pointing those out - I will add them over the Xmas period, if not sooner. I have checked the link you posted too and it does look like that one slipped through the net during the handover from Charles - the list was requested on the 9th June and I started on the 11th June and between us we must have missed it. Apologies for that - I will combine both lists and treat them as one new job to be given top priority :)

Best wishes,
Chris R.

Thank you very much indeed Chris.  That is excellent - I know only too well how things can slip between stools during hand-over periods.

Cheers.

Re: Scale Insects and Whitefly Additions Needed

Just one correction: Coccus hesperidum Linnaeus

The author Linnaeus should not be in parenthesis.
