Topic: Dasineura pteridis/filicina

Dasineura filicina (Kieffer, 1889)     TaxonVersionKey: NBNSYS0000028190

should be a synonym of

Dasineura pteridis (Müller, 1871)     TaxonVersionKey: NHMSYS0020470288

I think.

Not sure which is senior

Re: Dasineura pteridis/filicina

Hi Murdo

With the dates being 1889 and 1871 I'd guess that filicina is the junior synonym of pteridis ... and PESI says that pteridis is valid but has no mention of filcicina so I think I will go with what you have suggested :)

Thanks!

All done - pteridis is the valid name, filicina is the junior synonym :)

Re: Dasineura pteridis/filicina

Thanks, Chris.  Interesting that the BPGS list holds pteridis, and the (preferred) Diptera list filicina.

Re: Dasineura pteridis/filicina

Yes, I'm afraid that it's our fault because the Diptera list is a bit behind the times because it hasn't had all of Peter's updates applied to it. I Googled and found that one of Peter's recent changes was to synonymise filicina under pteridis, which is how I got the cast-iron confirmation that our theory was correct ;)
