Topic: New Moth Species - Conistra rubiginosa (Black-spotted Chestnut)

Hi Chris,

Please add the following moth species:

Bradley Code: 2259a
Taxon: Conistra rubiginosa
Authority: (Scopoli, 1703)
Vernacular: Black-spotted Chestnut
Parent: Noctuidae

This species is recently new to Britain! I'm expecting records for it for the National Moth Recording Scheme.

I'm reasonably sure there isn't a valid entry for this species in the NBN Dictionary (I can't find one!)

Best wishes,
Les

Re: New Moth Species - Conistra rubiginosa (Black-spotted Chestnut)

Hi Les

I think you are correct - no entry for it yet. I am sure it would come in with the upcoming Lepidoptera checklist but I can add it anyway in the List of Additional names if you need it quickly?

Cheers

Hi Chris,

Yes, I'll need a key for this species quickly as I've received records for it.

Any news (that you can divulge) re the new checklist?

Many thanks,
Les

Hi Les

The last I heard it was going to the publisher any minute, so it should be available fairly soon. I have added your 2 names though:

Conistra rubiginosa (Scopoli, 1703)

Black-spotted Chestnut

Many thanks Chris!

I presume you and your team will produce the new preferred dictionary for Recorder 6?

Best wishes,
Les

Damn! looks like MapMate has the wrong year on the authority, it should be (Scopoli, 1763) - my apologies, I should've checked with Fauna Europaea.
