Topic: Female Lombardy Poplar

Populus nigra 'Italica' in the Biological Records Centre coded checklist in Recorder has a common name of 'Female Lombardy Poplar'.

Under Other Common Names Lombardy-Poplar is listed. I would suggest the two should be switched so that 'Lombardy-Poplar' is the preferred common name.

(Once again, I have no idea if this is a species dictionary or recorder issue - or indeed if this list can be/will be changed given it's age and origin......!)

Re: Female Lombardy Poplar

Hi Charlie

I think preferred common names is a Recorder thing but if there is anything I can do then just ask. I can confirm that "Female Lombardy Poplar" is a common name on that taxon and the 2 "Lombardy Poplar" names are marked as ill-formed, which is odd because they aren't. It could be that, when the alternatives are ill-formed or not recommended then Recorder chooses the remaining name?
