Topic: New Species for BOU list

Fratercula cirrhata (Pallas, 1769)

I am archivist for the Kent Ornithological Society and we have the one and only record of Tufted Puffin in the UK.  I am happy to add this manually if it is not worthwhile adding to the list.

Re: New Species for BOU list

Hi Robin

Blimey, that one was a bit off-course - when was it recorded and are we sure that it came in of its own free will?

Many thanks
Chris R.

EDIT: should have Googled - I just saw the story on your website - 26 Sept 2009. Amazing record :)

OK, that's done now - added into the BOU ABC v2 list as:

tvk NHMSYS0020977897

Tufted Puffin
tvk NHMSYS0020977902

Many thanks :)

Re: New Species for BOU list

Thanks.  I'm not jealous I missed it at all.

May be a daft question but what do I do now you have added it.

Re: New Species for BOU list

Hi Robin

That's probably best answered by the Recorder6 users, as I am not a frequent enough user to know the answer to that one. In due course the taxonomy database will be updated in a new release of Recorder6 (Mike Weideli looks after these) but in the meantime there could be a stop-gap method for entering a record for a species, given the TVK. Mike can you answer this one? :)

Best wishes,
Chris R.

Re: New Species for BOU list

Thanks.  I will await the update.  I don't think we are going to have a rash of Tufted Puffin records  :)

Re: New Species for BOU list

Would be nice though, wouldn't it :D  I guess it would have to go down as one of the worst cases of bird navigation in history!

Re: New Species for BOU list

The taxon will appear in a future dictionary upgrade. Not the next one though which is in the pipe line. You can add the entry for  it in the Dictionary manually (via Dictionary/Edit Taxon Details) which allows additions. Thsi will give it a local Taxon Version key and you will need to move the determination once the dicitionary is upgraded.   If there is only one the this can be done manually, but there are automated methods which can be used if required).
