Topic: Hieracium argillaceum

I've checked and double checked but this hawkweed isn't showing up in R6 and no synonyms present themselves. Its listed in the BSBI database and here's the info from the Plant List (theplantlist.org):

Hieracium argillaceum Jord. is an accepted name
This name is the accepted name of a species in the genus Hieracium (family Compositae).

The record derives from TICA which reports it as an accepted name (record 48CEE2E9-6038-4B23-AFF5-9A21753510F0?) with original publication details: 17 1849.

Full publication details for this name can be found in IPNI: urn:lsid:ipni.org:names:214957-1?.

Re: Hieracium argillaceum

Hi Purgle

That's an interesting one indeed ... I have checked the master copy and it doesn't exist, so it looks like it needs to be added. We have been using the 2007 BSBI checklist (which doesn't have H.argillaceum listed) and we have been preparing to update it using Stace's 'new names' but actually H.argillaceum doesn't seem to occur there either so it has flagged up a potential problem with species that have missed both lists but have been added to BSBI's online catalogue.

I will get in touch with the BSBI and see if we can obtain a definitive checklist and then do the necessary updates in full.

Thanks for pointing that out - there are bound to be other names that have slipped through the net. :)

Re: Hieracium argillaceum

Just a quick update to the situation with the Flowering Plants checklist. I am told that Stace3 didn't add all of the Hieracium micro-species, which explains why this one is missing from both lists. I will be meeting with the BSBI next week to chat about how we move forward - whether it is worth adding Stace3 names or just adding missing species in an ad-hoc way, as they are needed ... until a complete BSBI revised checklist is produced.

Re: Hieracium argillaceum

I presume that this 'species' was never added?
