Topic: Broken Recorder Workstation

I have come in this morning to an XP workstation that fails to open. I had upgraded to v6.17 earlier in the week, but it was running properly yesterday. The Exception message implies that Recorder can't access the drive with the object sheet file, in this case on a mapped network drive. The network drive is there (I have disconnected and re-connected trying different users), but this does not help. I fear that this is a PC issue, not a Recorder one and that this is a merely a symptom, but thought I'd post here in case anyone has an thoughts.

Re: Broken Recorder Workstation

Have you checked for the usual problems with the Object Sheet folder? i.e. that it exists, that you have the necessary permissions to write to it and that the various components of the mapping are consistent – see http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?pid=2611#p2611 ?

Some of the other information in old mapping posts on the forum may help – see http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?pid=8529#p8529 and the posts it links to. Note that since the forum was updated you need to copy links in old posts into your browser to follow them.

Re: Broken Recorder Workstation

The settings on the object sheet folder have not changed, so all users have full permissions. I have tried logging onto the server from different users and this workstation returns the same error, whilst other workstations work properly. The issue must be with this machine somewhere - mapped network drive which contains the R6 stuff appears in Windows explorer as 'Disconnected Network Drive' even though it is not.

Re: Broken Recorder Workstation

Our network went down a few weeks ago and caused the "Object Sheet folder" problems Sally is referring too.

I ended up having to un-install from the computers admin account (even though i have full admin privilege) run the checker/fix program (that i thought was in this forum but i can find no link too) then re-install the workstation (still from the admin account).

I don't know if that'll help in your cause, but i certainly understand how frustrating it gets so may be worth a try.

Shall try to find a link to the checker/fix tool.

Re: Broken Recorder Workstation

Thanks Ben. If someone can point me in the direction of this checker/fix tool that would be very helpful.

Re: Broken Recorder Workstation

Forget that - I'm an idiot! Was looking at the registry setting for the Object Sheet location and failed to notice that the registry setting was pointing to the 'User Files' sub folder. It's working again now.
