Topic: four flies

Have been working through a collection of records from Ivan Perry, and have four species new to britain in the last decade which are not on Gateway or in Recorder.  (although two of them do have rather odd NBN keys from the Tachinidae website!)

Opesia grandis

Greenomyia mongolica
CHANDLER, P.J. 2008. Greenomyia Brunetti, 1912 (Diptera, Mycetophilidae), a genus new to the British list. British Journal of Entomology and Natural History 21, 137-142.

Dolichophorus kerteszii
DRAKE, C.M. 2005. Dolichophorus kerteszii Lichtwardt (Diptera, Dolichopodidae) new to Britain. Dipterists Digest (Second Series) 12, 1-2.

Linnaemya picta

Re: four flies

Hi Louise

Opesia grandis & Linnaemya picta are in the database now (along with all the other 'new' tachinids), since I imported a Tachinid Recording Scheme checklist (based loosely on my website database) as my first bit of training with Charles when I joined in June ... I know, blatant favoritism! ;)  The taxonomy on the website does need updating a little but the UK Species Inventory database is absolutely up to date - e.g. synonymising Ernestia under Panzeria etc.

I will add the others but ...

* PESI doesn't list "Dolichophorus kerteszii Lichtwardt, 1902" ... but GBIF lists "Dolichophorus kerteszi Lichtwardt, 1902" so I will have to do some detective work to see which is correct. I will email Martin Drake on that.

* "Greenomyia mongolica Lastovka & Matile, 1974" again doesn't appear in the PESI European catalogue but it does come up on GBIF so that looks OK.

Many thanks,
Chris R.

Re: four flies

The 2 missing species (and associated genera) have been added:

Dolichophorus Lichtwardt, 1902            TVK=NHMSYS0020973788
Dolichophorus kerteszi Lichtwardt, 1902        TVK=NHMSYS0020973794

(Martin Drake confirmed that the spelling was 'corrected' incorrectly in his article and this species does indeed have only one "i" at the end)

Greenomyia Brunetti, 1912                            TVK=NHMSYS0020973800
Greenomyia mongolica Lastovka & Matile, 1974    TVK=NHMSYS0020973806

Thanks for suggesting these :)
