Re: Sympetrum synonymy
Sympetrum striolatum and S. nigrescens are not synonymised as I am assured they should be (under striolatum).

Has a consensus been reached on whether S.nigrescens is really a colour-form of striolatum? I have read a few articles that suggest that it is likely to be a synonym but that it might take DNA work to prove the case. I'm happy to synonymise if it has been decided by the majority but if the jury is still out then I'd rather wait. :)
Not my taxon, Chris, but I did get what I thought was an informed opinion from BDS to that effect. We had the problem up here with the 'Highland Darter', and I was advised that all 'nigrescens' should be recorded as striolatum. Happy to go with the experts on this one. BDS do not list nigrescens on their website at present.

Yes, I have read a few articles on the Highland Darter and the problem of whether or not it is a valid species... I will have a think about this one :) PESI doesn't list nigrescens so that is something - but it doesn't even list it as a synonym of striolatum, which is odd.
