Re: Chironomus species A

I have this species recorded in Recorder 3 but am wondering what it really is. Presumably someone knew that it was different or at least distinct enough to get an entry but is there an 'proper' name for this non-biting midge?

If you know I would be grateful as I can't find references to it outside of R3.

Re: Chironomus species A

My guess would be that it is written on a specimen somewhere by a worker who suspected that he had an undescribed species but nothing came of it, or the link has been lost between this name and the eventual described species. But this name persists because it was used on some old lists :)

Re: Chironomus species A

Thanks Chris in that case the record was probably a generic record that could not otherwise be entered in R3. It'll have to go in under the genus. Thanks again.
