Re: Porina & Festuca rubra

Hi,

Not sure if this is a Species Dictionary problem, but I’ll start here. We created a rucksack for lichens and noticed that Festuca rubra was being extracted as well. Eventually tracked it down to the entry for Porina.
Tested it with a rucksack with just the one entry to prove it and you get Porina and Festuca rubra. This is using drag and drop from the Fungi & Lichen Dictionary.
If you go one step up the hierarchy, or one step down and drag all the Porina in, it works fine. It appears to be just the Porina genus entry that causes the problem.
Is this a dictionary problem, or something wrong with our data?
I’ve rebuild all the indexes just to make sure that wasn’t the problem.

Cheers,

Dave

Re: Porina & Festuca rubra

It isn't your data Dave cos I get the same result, it happens if you run the wizard for any (or all) Porina.

Re: Porina & Festuca rubra

Does the same thing happen if you use the British List of Lichens and Lichenicolous Fungi, rather than Fungi and Lichens?

Someone decided years ago that the BLS list would not be the preferred list for lichens in recorder, but it is more complete and up to date for lichens and all our data uses it. There is another update to it in the system at the moment (any news on this, Charles?) so it would be useful to know about any gremlins that affect it.

Re: Porina & Festuca rubra

Hi Janet,

Exactly the same problem. You don't even have to run the report, you can see it in the report wizard if you select Current Rucksack (expanded) rather than Current Rucksack.

Cheers, Dave

Re: Porina & Festuca rubra

It seems to be picking up an entry from the List of Additional Names, festuca rubt which has an abbreviation of polec. I can't actually access that entry in the list, although it is indexed.

Re: Porina & Festuca rubra

I have corrected the incorrect "polec" abbreviation but am at a bit of a loss as to why Recorder would be bringing that Festuca in with Lichens. The patching in our master tables appears to be correct for both genera/groups and there isn't a hint of a Porina pointing to a Festuca so it might be worth raising the issue with the Recorder team if the abbreviation update (when that filters through to you) doesn't fix it. Do report back to me though if it looks like we need to take any action here :)
