Topic: Cottus in the UK

Dear Chris,

The UKSI currently shows both Cottus gobio and Cottus perifretum within the database and thereby I assume both are found in the UK ??  iNaturalist users dispute that C.gobio is in the UK and indicate that a taxonomic mix-up means that ALL such records should be attributed to C.perifretum.  See here: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/66241647  Is this correct ??

I think C. perifretum was brought forward by the same paper that highlights this as the only British species - it just looks like C. gobio wasn't sunk as synonym in the UKSI, possibly for political / legal reasons i.e. it's gobio in all the legislation or the small sample size:
