Topic: Cantharis nigra

Using R6 dictionary version 4V. Just to note that the scientific name for Cantharis nigra in the R6 masterlist (and when exported) appears to be formatted very strangely as Cantharis nigra (=thoracica) red scutellum. TVK = NHMSYS0021243858. I have no knowledge of beetle taxonomy, but just thought this looked rather incongruous, and wondered if it was something that needs checking. Appears similarly on NBN atlas so something to do with UKSI I presume.

I assume the addition of "red scutellum" to the name is in response to John's comment (the colour of the scutellum distinguishes the two), but I'm not sure I agree with it.

Thanks Charlie - that explains it, a complicated situation. Will have to be careful exporting taxa with attribute and authority fields.

The problem is it appears on lists: https://species.nbnatlas.org/species/NH … sification , which as Mark says is incongruous. IMHO "sensu auctt. Brit. non (De Geer, 1774)" and "(De Geer, 1774)" are enough to clarify the situation, any other concerns with erroneous data entry should be dealt with separately (eg the app flagging it up) [but I acknowledge the tightrope of practicality!].
