Topic: Marine species???

Hello Chris.

I have had reason to add some Platyhelmithes to R6 recently, and was surprised to discover that the list
NHMSYS0021013728 MARINE Species of the British Isles and Adjacent Seas checklist contains some (as far as I am aware) non-marine entries.

These include 2 Microplana spp. and NZ and Aussie Flatworms (terrestrial), and three Polycelis spp. (FW).

Is this intended, or have all the Seriata been pasted in irrespective of ecology?

Re: Marine species???

Hi Murdo

The WoRMS list is primarily marine but it also tries to include groups that might be of interest to marine recorders along the shore-line or in dune systems & estuaries. Therefore it does include rather a lot of non-marine taxa - I'm trying to keep track of the marine taxa by setting and using the "MARINE_FLAG" in Organism but I haven't switched on as many as I should ... in fact only those in the MSBIAS checklist that were explicitly marked "isMarine=1" in the WoRMS data :)

Hope that helps clarify the situation ... it is a bit messy I'm afraid :)

Best wishes,
Chris R.

Re: Marine species???

I thought that might be the case, Chris.

Thanks.
