Topic: New British Lepidoptera Checklist

Hi Chris,

I suspect you're very much aware of the recent publication of the updated British lepidoptera checklist. May I enquire when it is likely to be implemented as the Recorder 6 preferred lepidoptera dictionary? Also, I understand the Angela Marmot Centre hold an electronic copy of the new list, is there a contact I can request the possibility of obtaining this list for NMRS use?

Best wishes,

Re: New British Lepidoptera Checklist

Hi Les

Very pleased to say that we will be getting the new checklist into the database - but currently I haven't got a schedule for this. My understanding is that David Agassiz will be passing the data to Adrian Hine who will then pass it on to me to be imported after he has jiggled it into the right format for our importer. I was in touch with David last week and the wheels are in motion ...  :)

Best wishes,
Chris R.

Re: New British Lepidoptera Checklist

Hi Chris, excellent news. There are some nomenclature errors that should be corrected before any conversion takes place. I don't hold a list of these, I suspect David Agassiz will advise. I'm hoping the new list corrects some of the nomenclature errors that crept into the Bradley 2000 preferred dictionary, not helped by the fact some of the entries were a bit ambiguous and all the vernaculars were in capital letters, the latter probably for clarity of reading. Carry on the good work!
