Re: Missing Speices -Arthonia astroidestra

Arthonia astroidestra does not appear to be in R6. It is however referred to by Natural England in The Exmoor and Quantocks Natural Area. If this has changed name then the synonym should be there too.

Which dictionary are you using? Arthonia astroidestra is in the British Isles List of Lichens and Lichenicolous Fungi in R6.10.

Re: Missing Speices -Arthonia astroidestra

Tony,

As Janet mentions, Arthonia astroidestera should be there - it is in both the British Isles List of Lichens and Lichenicolous Fungi (since the list was added to Recorder in 2004) and the British Mycological Society GB Checklist of Fungal Names (since June 2006).

If you still can't find it then please post a reply and we'll try and track down why.

Best wishes,
John

Re: Missing Speices -Arthonia astroidestra

Well I agree Arthonia astroidestera is there but Arthonia astroidestra is not. I suspect this is not a current or legitimate name. Not being my specialist subject and finding it referred to in the Natural England description of Exmoor and the Quantocks I supposed it was correct. It was probably the source of the name for our BAP/notables list in the first place.

Can you confirm that Arthonia astroidestra does not exist and it should be Arthonia astroidestera please.

Re: Missing Speices -Arthonia astroidestra

Hi Tony,

This seems to be a spelling error. Arthonia astroidestera has changed its name a few times but it has never been Arthonia astroidestra. It is a species with a strongly south-western distribution, and is known from the Exmoor area.
